Default Strange sound anyone have similar

Ok so on my 05 just started doing this. Random only done it 3 times so far, twice at hwy speeds once going about 30. Lasts about 10 seconds. It basically sound like if you drive over road patch and it gets in your tire and kicks rocks sand around. I can't tell where it's coming from but want to say from the front. No engine light no drop in oil pressure, no rough running or anything so I don't even know if it's engine related. Any ideas?

Could possibly be your IWE's. They control your 4wd. I know when mine went bad it sounded like someone shaking nails in a tin can while I was driving

Yeah thats what it sounds like, I did some more searching and found a bunch a threads about the IWE soleniond. So I swapped it out, hope that was it, but with these trucks I'm sure it wont be that easy. Cody what did you actually have to fix on yours?

I first replaced the IWE solenoid as well and it didnt help. Its probably worth replacing it anyway if you still have the OEM one without the rainhood. I ended up having to replace both IWE hubs and that fixed it. Oh the IWE solenoid is on the firewall behind the battery if you didnt know.

Sorry for the late reply. My caliper bolts on both my front calipers decided to snap (probably because i over torqued them and was hauling almost 2000 pounds of mulch in the bed) so Ive been busy playing with them.

Haha no worries. I did replace the solenoid last week and so far so good. But it was very random before so I'm not holding my breath. How much it cost you to replace the iwe's?

I ordered the dorman ones off amazon for 70 bucks each I believe and got about 8 months out of them and last month it started happening again. Still had warranty on them so I returned them and bought the TechSmart ones at advance for 125 a piece and problem solved. Done it enough times now that its a 15 minute job per side lol.

Thats funny, when I replaced my solenoid it went from being a random occurence to constant grinding. Didnt help at all in my case haha.

Yeah. I had the same problem. Mine was a vacuum leak. I paid a shop to diagnose it and they diagnosed and fixed it for 40. Sometimes cheaper to have a shop diagnose than to just throw parts at it.
