Strange Passenger side dash noise 08 XLT (video)
Just picked up my fathers 08 XLT Supercrew 4x4 yesterday (inherited it) and driving it back from NJ, and there is a really strange and fairly loud noise coming from the passenger side dash.It almost sounds like a mix of static thru a speaker and little stones rattling around. Gets loud at 60mph+ and is mild at around 50mph and then you can't really hear anything at low speeds.
My father bought this truck brand new and he babied it and it was never in any accidents.
He never mentioned anything about it, but he might have not had it out on the highway in a long time.
Here is the video.please watch the whole thing to hear the full array of sounds:
Any idea's?

Have you tried turning the blower fan off to see if that is what is rattling? I would also check to see if the trim that runs along the windshield and over the roof is loose. They can flap around and cause all kinds of noise. Clips hold it down along the windshield and brake all the time and glue holds it down on the roof.

Yeah the first thing I did was turn the blower fan off and on, and on all different speeds and settings and no change. I'll check the trim, thanks, but it really sounds like its coming from inside the dash. Such a strange noise too.

EDIT - I looked up some TSB about it but it said it's only 04-06 trucks. Have to ream more though...

I have an 08 XLT 4.6 and had the same noise. It was coming from the drivers side. The wind had caused the plastic trim on the bottom of the window to come loose. The clip that was holding it in had worn down a little and was enough for it to rattle in the wind. the faster I went the louder it went. You might want to check the clips to see if they are loose.

IWE (Integrated wheel end) it engages your 4X4 if its losing vacuum it can engage a little bit. Don't be concerned very good chance it's not that, but have a look just be make sure.
