Default exhaust manifold

good evening everyone. i have an 08 f150 4x4 5.4. 275000 km . i have had a leak in my manifold for some time. its louder when its cold or just started and quiets as it warms. so u know I live in ontario canada and it gets very cold hear last week was -20 last night however when it was cold i started it and left immediedly as i was running late for work. i noticed like 2 minutes into my ride it got really loud and the gas fumes that are usually bad in the cab because it has had a leak for some time became much worse i was like light headed from it and got a headache also the truck lost significant power. i pulled in to tim hortons drive through and it was really struggling to stay running at idle. i decided to park it and have my wife come get me. today i went back for it. it fires up and it still has same issue its louder then it was before last night and has kind of a ticky sound and very little power when accelerating it threw an engine light on. is it possible that the cracked manifold would make it run so poorly and throw codes and an engine light. I have purchased the new manifold its the passenger side one. i did the drivers side already it was replaced 2 years ago. i was thinking of replacing the passenger side but it will either take more time then i have plus im not sure if i can do the job. but its very costly to have done from a mechanic and they cant give you a definite price. its depending on if any studs break or need to be extracted. so its like minimum 6 hours labor and up from there so on top of the 200 i paid for the doorman manifold and gaskets it could be another thousand. im worried if its a different or bigger problem im throwing good money after bad. I have 3 kids and honestly still recouping from christmas. lol. I just dont have alot of extra available funds at the moment. i am commited to fixing my truck as I just had the tranny rebuilt. it was 3600 dollars. Truck has a solid body and i have replaced most parts on it. any questions please ask. im starting with the basics here guys. thanks
im not familiar with the site. so if there is valuable information in previous threads by all means direct me please. thank you.

No a cracked manifold is not going to make the engine run noticably bad.

My guess would be a spark plug came loose based on the description. Scan the OBD2 for codes and tell us what is stored.

You have misfires on cylinder 3 and 4 (bank one)
And both camshafts are showing as over retarded.
I would guess you have a timing chain/phaser problem.
Avoid driving it until you can do some investigating.
Look up ford 5.4 and "fordtechmakuloco" on YouTube for more info.
Also the knocking sound thread that is stickied at the top of this subforum has loads of info.

What can cause the misfires on bank 1 cylinders 3 and 4 i have replaced the plugs a few years ago not all the coils were done just the bad ones i believe at the time. is it the timing chain / phaser issue that is causing those 3/4 misfires or a separate problem like perhaps the coil packs or faulty plugs? thanks for your help.

Misfires could be caused by bad plugs or a few other things, but it seems like they would have been giving you grief prior. They can be cause by the timing being off as well, so I guess I'd lean more toward that since it doesn't seem likely to be a coincidence to me.

You’ll be looking at a full timing job with the P0012/0022 codes, but with that mileage on the engine and if you’ve let these noises go for too long, you may as well look at a remanned engine.

Ticks could be from many places. Valve followers wear out, the timing chain gets some slack in it and scrapes the timing cover and sends metal around the engine, later 5.4s lose thrust washers and develop crank walk. Whole lotta fun here.

It's not the manifold. Dude trust us, this is a story we've heard over and over.

Manifold leaks don't cause the engine to run crappy.

What does? Misfires and bad valve timing are pretty high up there.
I could agree that it sounds like you need to do the timing job, but it's not gonna be cheap to have a shop do it.
