TPMS= Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It is an electronic system mandated by the wonderful people of the government to protect some 's that find it hard or impossible to keep track of their tire pressure (remember the Ford tire blowout fiasco?). It has been implemented in most 2007 vehicles and ALL vehicles sold in the US in 2008 on up, Foreign, Domestic, cars and trucks. Not much was known about the workings of the system until it magically hit the streets, not even most of the dealers. It doesn't seem like a pain in the ss system once it is understood and know how it operates, as of now there is no way of disabling it though ! Replacement parts (bands, brackets and the sensors) are starting to show up on aftermarket and the prices are coming way down..you can go to a HVAC store and get a 1/2" X72" worm gear clamp that will fit most all wheels we have here for the sensors (for aftermarket wheels)...It's just one more thing the bureaucrats in DC want to saddle us with. Got to look at the positive...it's good for the people that don't have the foggiest idea how to maintain their car/truck. my .02

Default Thanks

Ok thanks for explaining this system. I have a 2004 and now I know I don't have to worry about it. Still reading my Haynes on the back of the porcelain library rack and trying to understand its contents and get familiar with my truck.
Again thank you,
John
