Default Stereo question

Hi all, I have an '08 King Ranch screw, it has what I'm guessing is the standard am/fm/sat/6 disc stereo with the sub under the back seat. Is there an easy way to add a USB port? I'm not sure I want to go aftermarket, will an '09 stereo bolt/plug in? and work with the steering wheel? I don't much care for that dumb aux input on top of the dash.

It has been done, I remember seeing it on this site. Try searching, and I will do the same to see if I can find the thread.

Nice find, some good ideas. It appears those installs were for charging, I want to hook up an iPod to the stereo for music without using the 1/8 stereo plug. I'm already looking to move the factory aux plug from the dumb location on top the dash.

I'm not sure if it will have the same audio quality with the ipod. I think your head unit has to have ipod functionality to have good audio quality with it.

I could be wrong, but.... I have an Alpine deck that is ipod capable, and it has an AUX setting. The AUX setting sounds like garbage, but if I tab over to the ipod option the sound quality is on par with a CD. Same USB port.

I have one for sale, but it's for an iPhone 4/4S. It's the Saleen BrandMotion. They may make an updated cable for it...not sure. PAC probably makes one, as well.

The radio for the 04's to 08's are all the same for the main plug (power, ground, and speaker connections). Some factory radios will also have one or two additional plugs, which allow for steering wheel controls (if equipped in the truck) as well as the rear seat bass/amp. If you do not have the steering controls or rear amp, the radio will still work just fine. The "main plug" is the same for any 04 to 08 model.

In the case of my 07 supercab, there were two harnesses plugged into my factory radio; one was the main harness, the other was for the factory bass/amp option. However, there was not one under the back seat, so either a previous owner removed it, or it simply did not come with the truck (I have a copy of the window sticker; it did not show up as an option). Some trucks come pre-wired for these options, so if you run accross an unplugged harness behind the dash, don't panic!
