I will put my 2 cents on this problem, my steering when bad a few weeks back and yesterday i replaced the pump as i thought that was the total of my problem.

Noisey pump....

But the has been really no change to the steering and so from you posts i will lubricate the u-joints on the steering shaft and hopefully solve the problem.

Will let you know.....

Well.....let me say.....5 mins after i made my comments on the above, i think i have fixed the steering problem.

Used WD-40 and sprayed the crap out out of the u-joints, would of liked to remove the shaft but unable to at the moment.
Steering now working alot better, i am just $60 down for a new power steering pump but you live and learn.

Well, that is super, Desert Rogue. That's why I posted about my experience: so people who might have the same problem could benefit from it. That's what a good forum should be, a source of useful information.

Maybe my mechanic blew the call on the power steering pump, like TechRep said. If he did, it was an HONEST mistake. This guy has saved me lots of money in the past and I trust him completely. He is a good man.

Glad you got your problem taken care of and I'm happy that this thread has helped you, Desertrogue.

This has come up so many times....it really should be a sticky right up there with cam phasers and spark plugs. I too replaced my pump when I first got the truck, not knowing any better.

We all can't get it right everytime, a least you have someone you can trust in your pocket....
And yes, this is a great source of information....somethings i have never come across, but knowledge is power.

Truck has been having these same issues for a month or so, been driving me nuts so going to try this. Went out and sprayed the u joints with some wd40 so we shall see. If so you might have saved me over $100 bucks!
