I have not owned it from new. I bought the truck Used from a auto broker who got it from an auction. I got a great deal on it and when I bought it I did not know about this issue. I just knew the 5.4 was a tank and a great engine and it was a ford. I do understand I am a small percentage of people with this issue and that's why they have not issued a recall, but it just a very costly repair and even if I get it fixed it is not guarantee it will not come back or fix the problem. Im just frustrated it has so little miles on it. if the truck had close to 200,00 it wouldn't be an issue but at 105,000 it is an issue. this truck is to old to be dumping that kind of repair work on it to be even worth it.

Junk that son of a bitch . Or sell it to me real cheap .just posted where .,,,,, . We got 450 pieces trucks at work with 5.4 at one point . and were using it as truck for oil rigs maintenance and explorations . Almost everyone of them got over 100 k miles in a year. We only got five broke down .because of an accident .so lucky you to get a junk one .

Pick an auto maker, they all have their issues.

You could buy a brand new BMW 7 series, and by 100k you will be feeding it oil
You could buy a subaru and deal with oil consumption/lean cylinders/crappy paint
You could buy a chev(early 5.3) and deal with piston slap

No car maker is perfect, IMO, pick the issues you can deal with. My mindset is as the **** breaks it is getting upgraded. Come get me cam phasers, You will get a lock out

138,000 on mine. Still runs like a champ. No cheap oil and changed often as recommended.

Not long ago I worked for a company whose fleet was Chevy trucks. I must say this company was lucky in that the known problems with the early 6.6 motors never surfaced with that fleet. I am on my fourth Ford truck in about 35 years. The two previous went 200K and 250k with not much more than oil changes and tires. My only Chevy was a '96 Impala. It had a new engine at 60K and the rear and trans were going south when I sold it at 90K, in a platform that routinely goes 300K when painted yellow. Every manufacturer makes a lemon now and then.

OP, if it makes you feel any better, I'm just hitting 75,000 miles, and so far I have replaced the:
Transmission, IWEs, radiator, fpdm, transfer case motor, shifter cable, blower motor resistor, idler and tensioner pulleys, and an alternator. I'm probably forgetting a few things as well.
And then the normal items like filters, pads and rotors, a battery, and a set of tires. Time for me to do plugs, and I'm not scared one bit.
Guess what.....still love the truck.

go search [insert whatever car or engine] problems and you'll see people posting just like you and you'd get the feeling that whatever engine or car you were looking at were basically time bombs and they will cost you a ton of money... you would find an expensive problem that a few 1000 people had and assume it's common, but then you'd forget that 1000 problems out of how many of these vehicles were sold, is actually a pretty small number and percentage.... people go to these forums frequently for help with a problem, while there are people that just like to talk about the product they share in common, they are the minority compared to those looking to solve a problem... why do i mention that? well if you don't have an issue, you likely wouldn't have come here.

you got a great deal by getting it from an auto broker who bought it at auction... i think that likely increased your chances right there of getting something with issues
