Default Stay away from the 5.4l triton!!!

I am now a victim of the 2004-2008 5.4L cam phaser problem. it started out when i came to a stop light and the truck started shacking really bad and making a loud knocking sound. As soon as i accelerated it went away so i thought it was a fluke. NOPE!! it stated doing it more and more but i was not getting a check engine light. Finally the light came on and gave me the code P0012-Intake camshaft position timing over retarded on bank 1. the only place to take it was Ford because they have the most up to date and complete diagnostics tool. It is still in the shop right now but to look at the phasers to see if i need both it is running me $600 just for them to remove the valve covers to look. he said it was going to cost me close to $1500 just to fix the issue! i have read all over the internet about this issue and it seems like Ford know about this issue because in 2013 they got sued because of this same problem! if you look 2004 has the most complaints of every year by far! please stay away from the 5.4L engine or Ford in general. I don't even want to get started with the spark plugs that break in the engine if you don't know what you are doing. That was another $600 bill that Ford had to do. The 4WD system as well had many issues with the IWE because its a vacuum system and was brand new in 2004. To many problems with Ford!

Default Go buy a Chevy then.

If you think Chevrolet or Dodge have less problems go get one.

Every company is going to have its problems. but if you look at Toyota they don't have much problems with there trucks except they are just gas hogs! also i had a 1999 Silverado with 187000 miles on it before the torque converter started to go. i didn't even reach 106000 before i have to have a new engine!

Not all of the 5.4s are bad but "FORD" could have prevented some problems if they would have had some workers who gave a s@** !

Its a 10 year old truck problems will happen. Couple that with my truck has 204,000 on a 5.4 and no timing work done to it I would say its fine if they are taken care of.

Hey numb-nuts, if you read the whole Internet about the issues with the truck, then why did you buy one? It's not our fault that you are scared to turn a wrench, and fix things yourself. Now go ahead and move on over to the Toyota forums, so you can see what issues come with those as well.
As for the rest of your post...........

You know...If I remember correctly, there's is a guy on here somewhere that just bought an f150 after having the frame rust out beneath him on his two previous Toyota trucks...

134,000 miles on my 06 5.4 and no problems to date. Did the spark plugs myself it's a pretty simple procedure if you take your time. Could have easily finished it in an evening if I didn't get rained out. The 5.4 isn't a bad engine, my coworker did have the same thing just happen to him on his 04 5.4 but his engine was very neglected before he got ahold of it. I certainly don't baby mine, some would say I'm pretty hard on it, but I'm very meticulous about the maintenance and she's taken everything I throw at her like a champ.

Very solid motor IMO.
