Starting Problem W/06?
#4
I have some starting problems with mine every now and again. I go to turn the key and it cranks for a split second and stops. It does this about 1-3 more times before it actually starts. It's almost like the anti theft system is kicking in. Took it to the stealership about the problem and they just looked confused.

I had a similar problem on mine. The truck was 2 weeks old, and it wouldn't start. Everything worked : lights, windows, etc, but she just wouldn't turn over. The starter wouldn't even click.
I had it towed to the dealer and they replaced the ECU. I also had to have my remotes and the keys reprogrammed. I beleive it's the PATS system that went tango-uniform.
My son's 04 F-150 has done the same thing, several times. With it, you usually just let it sit for a bit and then it'll start. Recently it simply wouldn't, so we towed it to the dealership, where of course it started, and they couldn't find anything wrong. Hopefully they'll find it.

I had a similar starting problem with an '05 XLT 5.4L. It happened ~1 to 2 times a month. The conditions were always the same: engine was warm, crank it twice, start on third try. I made 6 trips to the dealership in 12mos....they never found any problems. I now have an '06 XLT 5.4L and have had a few events under the same conditions, but they aren't as frequent. I've always used Shell gas and Ford has done all the oil changes. (The '05 had a brake failure due to a pressure line coming loose during one of the false starts so be sure to double check your brakes before driving. *Fords response to this was, "sorry, sometimes you just have to work out the bugs")

I've had my '06 do that about 6-8 times. I've had it since late March '05 and rolled 34,000 miles today. I didn't bother going to the dealer with it since I figured they'd tell me "nothing".
Oh and mine is a 5.4L XLT SuperCrew (that needs a new rear bumper).

i had the same problem on my 05 5.4, like whats his name said once or twice a month, it cranks, but doesnt start.. u try again, same thing.. u try once more, it starts.. its because you're not turning the key all the way, its about 1/4" of a difference, but it makes the difference between starting and not. the second time it chokes is cause the starter doesnt click. something about too much gas from the previous start.. anyway, the dealer will almost always tell you to go f*** yourself. i never got mine fixed.. stil got the problem, jus crank it all the way down when u start, and u wont have any problem =)
