Default Squeeling on morning start

I have a 2004 Lariat supercrew 4X4 5.4 triton F150 and on initial startup there is a very high pitched constant squeel in the morning on the first crank of the day. The problem usually lasts only until the truck gets close to running temp and will not happen again on startup all day. It has happened on some of the cooler nights after the truck has cooled all the way back down. what do you think the problem is? its the new body style btw...its got 90,000 miles

Does it sound like a belt slipping? Maybe it's time to change it.

It's got 90 k on it and I'm almost positive he had never changed the belt. The first start would be to grab a gator belt, goodyear makes them, and slap that on. Advanced Auto parts in my are sells them for around $32 bucks and it takes 10-15 minutes and 1/2 inch rachet to change the belt. If that doesn't help replace the pulley which cost around $30-$35 bucks for the whole assembally, also easy to replace.

It could be either one of the 2 idler pulleys or the pulley on the tensioner (mostly likely the cause). Or the belt but probably not the belt or it would do it on every start.

I had the exact issue the poster described and my first thought based on these forums and others was the belt so I replaced it with a gator and no more issues but that was my truck. Only giving the poster suggested ways to save money.

I had the same squeeling problem on cold starts but it was the grooved pulley that was bad. To replace all 4 idler pulleys and the belt only cost about 100 bucks and takes about an hour with no special tools.

Yeah when I first heard it I automatically assumed on of the pulleys and I think that is going to be the problem, glad it is a cheap easy fix....thanks for all the good advice.
