Spring rate
I have a 2008 STX 2wd, short wheelbase, regular cab and I want to buy a quick strut assembly. My problem is: the same assembly I am looking at is also used on the supercrew which is much heavier than my truck. This would leave me with a very stiff ride. Any suggestions?

The front of both trucks should weigh the same... as long as your looking at 2WD part numbers.

How is it possible that a 5,000 lb. truck and a 6,000 lb. truck would weight the same on the front end? Are you suggesting that all of the additional weight is on the rear?

the longer frame and bed and rear cab are all in the back ... how would the front weigh 1000lbs more... it mite weigh a tad more but, nothing that will effect coil springs. Like I said as long as it's not a 4WD with a front diff and drive shaft.... this is why it list that part number spring for both trucks...

I never suggested the front would weight 1000 lbs. more. It appears to me that most of the additional weight is in the middle of the truck, putting 400 or 500 lbs. on the front. That is a lot of weight. Is it true that Ford uses the same front spring for all 2wd trucks in a model year?

many different kinds
There is a range of spring rates for the front of the truck, depending on style, wheelbase and tow/HD options. I would just get struts and put the same springs back on. Barring that, enter your VIN in ford etis system and get your spring codes, then find the proper shock like shown in the link below:

Thank you tcp2, that is good info and advice. I was hoping to use a quick strut, but I don't want to take a chance of it being too stiff. Most of my miles are on the highway and a smooth ride is a priority.
