im pretty new to audio stuff so i have a noob question.. if i upgraded my speakers but not the head unit (i have the lariat package with the premium sound BS) would the speakers be at there full potential? i wouldnt mind upgrading my head unit, but i like the clean look of the factory one right now

No they wouldn't be at their full potential, especially if you got some that can handle a substantial amount of power. You'd need an amp.

Well, they wouldn't be performing at their full ability is a better way to say it. The OEM radio will still sound much better/clearer, but (depending on speaker quality) you could use a small amp to give them that extra "kick" to peak performance. Personally I just upgraded the door speakers and let it be. It sounds a lot better without the crackle and distortion of the paper stockers. All boils down to spending and ability.

alright thats kind of what i figured. thanks guys.. anyone familiar with any relatively cheap, yet quality, head units?
