Default Speaker upgrade

I want to upgrade from the stock speakers in my truck and I know that they are about 5 1/4 x 7 1/2 and I was wondering if you could just put 5 1/4 speakers in it.

These are what I'm looking at;

Or

Thanks for the help in advance.

depending on what stereo option you have from the factory the rears are 5x7/6x8 and the fronts are 5 1/4, 6.5 or 5x7/6x8...you can get templates for the speakers to fit whatever size you want though, i would do a component set, because in front doors there is a spot for the tweeter, if it came with a component set from the factory the tweeter spot is drilled out already, if not you can just use a drill and call it good!

one more thing when your replacing your speakers i would highly suggest getting a little sound deadener, and place it around the speaker mounting part and directly on the outer skin of the door right behind the speaker...makes a HUGE difference

So then I guess I have 5 x 7's. So how would I go about putting 5 1/4's in?

haha yea i have done everything audio wise and then some to my f150.......and if you want 5 1/4 or 6.5 in the factory location that is 5x7/6x8 all you have to do is either make an adapter, super easy just need some mdf, plywood will work also, or you can buy the plastic adapter scosche makes them and you can buy them on various web sites

So I'd just cut a piece of plywood to fit in the hole then cut a 5 1/4 in hole on the middle of it.

basically, a easier way is to take the stock speaker, trace along the outside of it and cut that out, then whatever speakers you buy will come with a template for you to trace out and then cut that hole...then put the template on the door, hook up the speaker and call it a day!

Default 6.5 inch separates

I just installed some 6.5 Kenwood separates last week. I prefer 6.5 over 6X8 or 5X7s. It took some modification of the mounting area, all covered by the speaker cover plastics. Results, amazing.
