Seafoam the engine 1 or 2 times run some good fuel injection cleaner through the engine and do it with the engine hot not cold. But get the lisle tool just in case. I broke 7 of 8 on my 5.4 but I did get them all out total time even with 7 breaking for me was 5.5 hrs.

Yes. It dissolves the carbon build up in the cylinder which is what causes the lower portion of the plug to seize in the head.

NGK Iridium plugs are a good replacement from the stock Ford plugs. Changed mine when truck was warm and all came out no issues. Make sure you use blow out the dirt\sand before taking the plug out.

Just to clarify, those of us with the 4.6 don't have to worry about this at all? What makes it different if you don't mind me asking?

Well he has an 08 with the 4.6, that is the reason he doesnt have the breakage issues. 08 being the key. Ford redid the heads on the april and newer 08's. 04-07 with the 4.6 may still experience plug issues.
