I've only had to remove 1 of mine and I used a 3\8 air ratchet and it came out with out breaking. It took it forever to break loose though.

Do you think a dewalt battery operated impact would work fine....???

my buddie at the shop does it all the time but the one thing he does is he runs the truck around town and gets it hot and than puts the impact to it and has had great luck with it

if its the 1/4 chuck one, i wouldnt recommend it. those 3/8 impacts put out around 200 ft/lbs of torque. if not more.

I used an electric impact to do mine a couple weeks ago and didn't have a single plug break. Truck had 108k when I changed them.

Ok just looked my dewalt impact up on the dewalt web site and it says us max torque is 111ft lbs....if this too much?

No it's not too much. I used my makita and worked great. Not one broken plug.
