yes, I agree, but if they do not extract it correct, how is that the customers fault? I am going to do an oil change soon, and going to have the spark plugs changed. I will leave with paper work in hand that if they do not extract them correctly, that charge is on them to remove correctly. I do all my work at the dealers, and I cannot imagine someone would pay this if a dealer messed up.

I wouldn't pay the dealer to do anything I can do..so...good luck too you. Ford tech's know how to get these out so you should be good to go. It's the little mom and pop shop that may have these problems.

OOOHHH, ok. Well I understand you probs have had issues. My thing is the dealer is always backed, and they report all services to the vehicle to carfax and such so it helps the resale and history of the truck. To me I put alot of value on that, b/c when I buy, I always only buy with a service track record.

Well i only do simple studf like spark plugs, oil and fluid changes. I had my infiniti worked on by the dealer for 4 years, never overpaid as i always showed proof of what the labor should cost. We will see, ford is def not infiniti so i probably wont get a high level of service.

You obviously had a horrible experience, but not many shops in miami you can trust.

I never understand why people that aren't capable of doing maintenance/ repairs complain about prices. If you don't like their prices do it yourself.

Just like the term "stealership" If you don't know how to do something you're going to have to suck it up and pay for it.

No ones complaining, but i mean youve got to be an idiot to pay $3k for spark plugs. Its simple, if your a mechanic and mess up your liable, just like if I did the work myself.

Me its worth it to have the history of the vehicle on carfax and autocheck, and have someone do the work.

It's easy to run up a $1000+ bill on spark plugs.

MOST people do not work on their own cars, fact. Changing spark plugs is well outside the scope of owner maintenance, and the volume of repair facilities is proof.

Lets say the shop breaks a plug (or three, or whatever). The extraction fails, the threaded plug body is seized in the head and debris is potentially in the chamber.

The only course of action is to remove the cylinder heads. If both heads have to come off, that's a big job.

A number of people (including the individuals that started the class action lawsuit) spent alot of money because of faulty design of the plug necessitating other work.

Count yourself lucky that you're not among the lawsuit members waiting on reimbursement for thousand-dollar repair bills paid years ago. I'm with you, I do my own work. But others (including people in this thread) cannot or DO not for very good reasons.

It sucks that they have to file a lawsuit and ford not stand behind, but thats why I would fear these smaller shops. I know the dealer charges more, but I always get paper work signed by them before I leave stating what they are working on and that if it it damages anything as a result of their work, they must fix it at their cost.

Fair is fair, like someone said here. I have warranty on my truck till 190k or 5 years and I just purchased it, so frankly I never worry to much regardless.
