I had the same experience with my recent (March) purchase. Bought at 101k MILES and the previous owner went by the book on maintenance, which I interpreted as never doing the plugs. Didn't break one. My technique was to warm the motor, pull the coils and spray a bunch of penetrating oil down to the plug. By the time I got all the coils off, I started at the first plug with a 3/8 impact gun and spun them all out. I did 1 tank of GUNK 'seafoam' type stuff and 1 tank of Techron in the fuel beforehand. The carbon buildup just wasn't there in my opinion. New motorcraft SP515 plugs went in coated with anti-seize. I read that the 1 piece plugs break just as easily as the 2 piece. Removing every 50k and reapplying anti-seize should help out.
