Default sounds like its got a supercharger

Sadly it doesn't have one but theres a whine under the hood that sure sounds like one. I can hear it in the cab when driving.

Its not the ac compressor because I hear it with the compressor off. Im not really sure where its coming from but I can hear it at any speed. Hard to tell if it changes with speed but doesn't seem to get louder or quieter.

A friend said it sounds like the power steering but the fluid is full and doesn't leak and I don't hear a squeal when turning the steering wheel. Steering is normal and theres nothing wrong with it when turning.

My truck is an '06 4x4 with a 5.4 with 132k. The serpentine belt was replaced at 121k.

Its been making the noise for a few months, if not longer. No drivability issues at all.

What could be the cause?

I had something like that and mine ended up being the idler pulley and the tensioner's pulley. I got the parts from a dealer and changed them out In about an hour and it was quiet again.

Were the parts fairly cheap? Id hate to just throw parts at it.

Watch the tensioner carefully. If it starts to fail in a certain way it will eat the timing cover. Very common on vehicles that encounter long idle periods.

Could be the ribbed pulley as well. I changed mine out during the blower swap and that ribbed unit was shot although functional.

Mine makes a similar noise as well, there are a few threads on this issue. Usually seems to be a pulley or the alternator bearing.

When my truck started doing it 1 year ago the alternator failed 1 week later. Keep some money on the side in case this happens to you.

I never let this truck idle long, don't even warm it up in the winter.

Its been since atleast Christmas, maybe longer since I didn't really pay much attention to it before that.

Ill have to check the pulleys when I get a chance and it isn't 10*.

I will second the tensioner pulley, especially at that mileage.
