Is there anyone who has built their own homemade light bar?

Are you looking for one over the cab or for the grille?

I built one behind my grille which is the same basic design, 4 lights mounted to a crosspiece with a support coming down from each side. How are your metal fab skills?

I'm pretty good at metal fab, I've built a few things in shop class a few years ago in highschool. The only problem with light behind the grille is i have the H style chrome grille so im not sure how well the light would work cause some may be blocked by the grille.

I sent the original owner of the truck a message a couple of months ago on the specs of his light bar and lights. In fact he is a member of this forum, his name is Desert Dawg

the light bar is from Randy Ellis Design randyellisdesign.com and the lights are PIAAs. The outer lights are 5-inch PIAA Superwhite 540 Driving Lights and the inner lights are 6-inch light PIAA 520 SMR Series Superwhite Offroad Lights.

hope that helps sawman

Thanks. It's a nice setup.

There is a guy on this site who made his own light bar very similar to the one pictured. Forget his name, but you should find it with a search. He posted a thread on it last year.

Yeah that might look a little off. The nice part about making it yourself is you can use whatever you want for the bar. Square, round tubing, you can cut into it for the lights. You can be as crative as you want. Just figure out where youre going to bolt the brackets to the frame and bring them down in an l shape. I'd suggest drilling into your frame and bolting them in. or find existing holes. I've seen people weld them to the frame but if you ever want to sell the truck or take them off its a pain. Also make sure your lights bolt on sturdily. i built a light bar for my old mud truck and they felt sturdy when i jiggled them but a buddy of mine told me they flopped around when i was driving.
