Bed not centered

Bed not centered
Hello, I have a 2008 standard cab with an 8ft.bed. When looking at it from the rear I can see the bed is not center with the cab. It is about 1/4 inch over on the passenger side. It has the dealer installed bedliner. How hard is it to remove the bedliner? What would be involved in moving the bed to make it centered after loosening the six bed bolts? I really dont want to take it back to the dealer if this is something that I can do myself. I ordered a cap for the bed and would like to have it centered.

that looks pretty bad. i wouldnt touch it, take it to the dealer, its under the warranty have them fix it. if you mess with it then f*** something up and then take it to them, they will then blame the whole thing on you.
good luck

I'm with you, rather do it myself than trust someone else. The bedliner issue makes me do an about face. Have no clue, and definately don't want to scratch the paint. One little scratch will hound you forever as to how stupid you were. I vote warrantee.

I had the some problem with my 04 hertige. Its not a easy fix because the beds are not square. If you loosen the bolts and line it up the gap between the front rail on the bed and the cab will be off also the bumper will be out.Measure the bed cross corner to see if its out.My 2008 is out 1/2 in you might have to live with it or have the dealer get you a new bed.

Now that this issue of the bed not being centered is on your brain, take a look at some of the other newer trucks on the road, any brand. You will most likely find that most of them do not appear to be completely square when more closely examined, at least that was my conclusion.
A few years ago i helped a friend install a (gulp) body lift on his '02 F150, and after lifting the bed (and both of us being perfectionists) we fought for hours eyeballing, measuring, shifting this way that way, even tightening bed bolts in different orders trying to get gaps perfect, and then went through the same OCD process when reinstalling the rear bumper. We got it looking pretty damn good, then compared it to my '03 F150 and my dad's '01 and laughed because the gaps were WAY off on these 2 trucks which had never been touched, just never noticed.
I'm not trying to sound as though your issue is no big deal, just sharing my experience with less than desirable factory tolerances. You're obviously not happy with it, and the truck is under warranty, so take it back to the dealer and tell them to make it right!!!!

ok here i go again, i was a body man for ford for 3 years so listen up. there is a lot of play in these beds and it can easily be shifted over from side to side front to back. to pull the liner out you have to take out the torx 30 bolts holding the anchors in the bed walls, after that stand on the tailgate and lift the liner up from the center as high as you can go which will pull the sides out from under the bed rails. you may want someone to help you with this. do the opposite to put back in. once you get to the bolts they are torx 50 or 55, these bolts have loctite on them so be careful i have broke many torx bits over the years. a trick i know of is take a hammer and bang on the head of the bolt a few times before trying to loosen them up. if you have an impact use it if not get ready to where your arm out. just loosen each bolt about a half inch then move the bed to where it looks best and tighten the bed.
Has the bedside been replaced that you know of? cause they could of welded it in to much which is very common for body men to do as fords have a huge tolerance.

Thanks for the replies. I made an appointment for Monday to take it to thedealer. Although I hate having to take it there, it sounds like this is the best option right now. After reserching info about the bed bolts it seems I would need a T-50 plus torx . This is more exspensive than a regular torx so I dont want to have to buy more than one if there is a chance of breaking it.
To Slmdseaturtle, Thank you for your knowlegable information about the bed adjustment.
