snow plow on 2005 screw
I was just reading in the owners manual that a snow plow is not recommended on a 2005 screw (5.4, auto 4x4 ). Why?? Not planning on getting a plow but wonder why they don't want it done.
Thanks,
Bernie

He's asking because the crew cab is mentioned by name in the manual, but not reg/ext cabs. They share the same suspension, so that's not it.
I'd guess its either frame design, or some weight capacity/distribution deal.

thanks guys,
I was thinking frame difference myself. however, is that same warning in all of the owners manuals? I think all of the towing and load specs are the same. Mine is a Lariat with tow package.
This winter I will pay more attention as to what is on the road...
Thanks again and we will see if anyone else chimes in with an answer.

After reading several sites I have figured it out. Weight is the big problem. The screw adds quite a bit of weight to the front end. In addition, new federal regulations (don't we have too many already...) require seating (180# per seat) be added to the calculation. Then adding rear end counter weight behind the axle is the final straw.
Because of this, the front end can't take it. Even beefed up it is questionable....
Now I know, and glad it is not a weak frame or other design flaw in my screw...
Still love the truck, best ride I have had since my 71 1/2 International Scout II.

Meyer, Western, Fisher all make a plow that is just a tad over 400 lbs designed for half-ton trucks and take it EASY, just do a few driveways, don't do parking lots. A plow trucks biggest concern is transmission temperature IMO, get a gauge and possibly additional cooler.
For the past 6 years I have had a plow on my XJ Cherokee (uni-body... GASP!) to do a few driveways. The Jeep has 220,000 miles and all original major parts (axles, trans, engine, t-case).
