I have a 08 xlt supercrew and I am wondering if I can get skid plates for my truck?

Haha, you should be able to get them from the dealer. Should be a three peice kit - gas tank, oil pan, and t-case.

My lariat has the plates as a dealer added option.

how hard are they to install?

I'd guess it's four bolts a piece, holes are probably there, let me see if I can find some pictures for you.
