Should i Regear my lifted truck?
Hey Fellas-
Recently picked up an 05 f150 5.4 liter with a 6” lift on 35’s. Wondering what your thoughts were on regearing.. i’m a new lifted (unleaded) truck owner and would appreciate some advice. Is it something I should worry about to much?
Maybe someone can fill me in on why it would be useful?
Thanks in advanced

A lot of guys put 456's in when they go to 35's. I have a 4" lift with 35's and don't have any issues with my stock 373. Then again I have a tuner with custom tunes and a few other power upgrades.

I recommend reading this thread it will help you make a decision. I am personally saving up for gears hope to have them installed by December.

I ran 3.73's on my truck for a couple years with my custom tuned Gryphon and didn't really have a need until I hooked anything up to it. I figured 1600 for gears or 2500-4K for a new tranny. Made the obvious choice and the truck is much peppier and can climb hills without downshifting or tow like a bulldozer. I'm lifted 6" on 35's on 20's.

Beautiful truck! So when you say " I figured 1600 for gears or 2500-4K for a new tranny." is that just by choice? Or are you saying it could damage my tranny if i dont? Young and needing to learn! I appreciate all the input

Thanks!
I say that because climbing hills was making my truck downshift everytime and to me it felt like I was lugging around my truck. With the new gears it just feels like it pulls so much better, much like a stock vehicle. When towing anything on my towing tune my trans temps in the heat of summer were reaching anywhere from 185-195 which in my opinion and comfort zone is too high. With the new gears towing the same load I haven't seen over 150. That alone justified it for me.
All in all it's just a personal preference/ risk you're willing to take. I plan on keeping this truck a long time and have put too much time, energy, and money into it to have it anything short of being right. I haven't looked back at all, ever since re-gearing.
