ol blue i live in the atl area but am from Ellijay in North GA so thats where i call home. what about you?

anyway it looks like i never updated yall on what i ended up doing about my truck. i bought a full set of 8 cops on ebay for about 100 bucks and also the spark plug getter outter thing in case they break. only had one break on me and the tool worked well... except when using the pusher thing to break the porcelain thing through the sparky tip thing the porcelain was chipped so im guessing there is some kind of little porcelain crumb floating around in the engine somewhere. ive put about 15k miles since then and havent had a problem so i guess its okay.

anyway i replaced all plugs and cops and its running great. thanks for yalls help too and if anyone else needs help with this i can maybe shed some light if you have a problem. i still have the lisle tool ianyone wants to buy it! only pulled one broken plug wih it.

Default Transmission Shudder / Sparkplugs / P0174 code

I had this exact same issue with the exact same truck and exact same good results after replacing the sparkplugs.

I bought the truck used with 220 000KM , on a long trip I noticed that when giving it more gas to get up an incline on the road or if coasting and taking off again (so basicaly increasing load) the truck would shake and shudder until I let off on the gas and give it again... It got worse and worse to the point where it was doing it when driving around town at 50km/h ... It eventually spit out a P0174 (System Lean on Bank 2)...

So I decided it was time to replace the plugs. I already had the Lisle 6500 (I also bought a spare puller screw) and OTC 9/16 plug socket. I decided to change them from Left and right side front to back... gaining experience as I work to the back to the firewall... I used Champion one piece 7989 plugs.

I did the 2 front on the first day. Blew out all the dirt, looked into the holes to make sure no rocks were left inside. Sprayed 2-3 sqirts of Carbcleaner and PBBlaster into the hole. Cracked the plug and let it sit for 20 mins. Then I went at it...

#1 Broke (front driver side), Using the Lisle tool was a pice of cake.
#5 (front passenger) came out in one piece ...
#2 Broke... but again it took 5 mins to get the broken piece out of the hole.
#6 came out in 1 piece.

I used a piece of rubber hose duct tapped to my shopvac hose to go down into the combustion chamber to get any dirt that might have fallen into the hole.

I noticed that all 4 had ALOT of carbon deposit on them. So I decided to stop there and run bottle of STP Injector cleaner on the 1/4 tank of gas I had left... drove for 3-4 days...

The next plug I removed was clean as a whistle and did not break...

I think that anyone about to tackle this job needs to
1- Buy the Lisle 6500 removal tool before you start.
2- Run 1-2 bottles of injector cleaner (STP worked well for me) into 1/4 tank of gas
3- Blow out the hole, shoot carb cleaner and PB Blaster(or other) into the hole
4- Crack the plug and let it sit as long as you can... Minimum 30 mins
5- Remove the plug by loosing a 1/4 turn... tight it back, loose... tight... You will hear squeeking noises... use your judgement... if it feels tight going out... go the other way a little then loosen
6- Vacuum into the hole with a piece of hose small enough to go past the sparkplug threads....

Ford dealer said it would cost around $1000 to replace the plugs... I feel I did a better job than someone else would have... vacuuming into the hole, cleaning all the COPS, dielectric grease, anti-seize...

The truck now as ALOT more power, shifts fast and tight. I thought my transmission was going... but after swapping the plugs, cleaning the cops with contact cleaner and using dielectric grease... I realise that this was all it was. What a difference.

Hope this helps someone.

I've had this issue twice, once was the spark plugs and most recently it was a clogged fuel filter.

Has anyone found any issues with tranny for this? I have BRAND NEW motor and am having this problem. When it was doing this before the motor, I had hoped it was die to misfires as it always threw a 0303 code after (on top of my ever present 0304 and 0308 codes - due to very bad valves). My tranny is just about a year old and the shop that did it is gone (so now my two-year warranty is sh@@). The people who did my engine suspect lock out solenoid. I may replace it and the others to try to rectify.

I have also noticed that somehow I have too much fluid - though I have never added any. I am considering pumping some out as I know too much fluid can cause shifting issues.

Talk about weird timing, it's almost odd this thread got bumped today.

This exact thing happened to me for the first time last night, I have the Lisle tool, COP's, and plugs in my cart right now.

I just pumped about a quart of fluid out of it. Gonna take it for a drive in a few to see if I can trigger it. On the bright side, it was a very nice red with no foam!

My truck had that rumble for years, felt like driving over rumble strips when downshifting from od. I had overdrive go out and had to replace the retainer that held up the overdrive piston. After that, no more rumble. Plus I got my overdrive back.

Sounds like the lockup torque converter to me. Mine did it. Tranny fluid flush helped for about a year.
