Lightbulb 4.6 vs 5.4

Hey I was just wondering if anyone out there knew if there was any substantial difference in the engine blocks of the 4.6 and the 5.4?

The reason I ask is that I have found an 04 Lightning that has been totalled and the guy is gonna sell it for parts dirt cheap! Hes a friend of mine and told me that he'd give me a couple of weeks to figure out if I want it or not. I was thinking that I may take the supercharger and all of the necessary components from it and put it on my 4.6L if it will fit on there.

I was hoping that the 4.6 and 5.4 are the same block, with different bore and stroke to make that extra liter of displacement. Anyone out there know if this crazy idea will work? Thanks.

PS: the motors toasted, or i would just take the whole thing... but he claims that the supercharger will still work OK.

diffrent block and heads. The good thing is if you can get the whole truck get another 5.4 and you can use all his bolt on stuff and wiring harness.

Default thanks

hey, you just ruined my day with that little tidbit! LOL thanks for the info though.

Anyone got a good website where I can get pistons, crank and other engine rebuild parts? Would it be cheaper to get a crate motor or motor from a salvage yard? Id like to get a price before i turn down the offer...

If the price is right get the whole truck. If you are doing a 5.4 swap into yours you will need parts off of it. Where are you. If you buy the truck I might be interested in parts off of it myself.

After pulling my boat with my wifes tahoe 5.6L I want a 5.4 or even 6.0 diesel... Her truck pulls it easily at 2000 RPM where mine has to be out of OD at 3K rpm getting 11mpg...
