For $100-150 you can get a used Edge. Scan codes, clear them, more gauges, and can tune if you so desire.
There are a bunch of $20 obdii scanners on Amazon. I have no experience with them, but I do know some scanners cannot pull certain codes from the HVAC/ABS/radio/etc.

Bluetooth OBD 2 scanner on eBay, $25 or less. Torque Pro app for your phone, $5. Reads everything including real-time data and can clear codes. It can also log performance data incl. speed records and travel times and you can set up multiple profiles for other vehicles.

This is the one I got back in 2013,
Add $5.00 for the torque app (Android) works great, even comes with some minimal software so you could use a laptop instead of the smart phone app.
@ home I use IDS so the adapter rides with me for use @ work if I feel like it.

Yep, that torque app is great. Can't ask for much more for under $30.
