Default Sanity check cloyes timing chain kit??

In the process of doing the full monte phaser job on 5.4 including oil pump, thrust bearing, phasers and the cloyes timing kit with the early steel ratcheting tensioners.

The tensioner guides on the cloyes kit look identical left and right- where the Ford guides have a "bump" at the pivot pin to identify the left (driver side) guide. When I put - mine on, the passenger side tensioner rail sits centered on that chain- which sits further forward than the drivers side chain. As a result, that right rail doesn't fully bottom out on the pivot pin. There's a slight gap (about 1/8-3/16" ) from the back side of the rail to the block surface where the pin protudes. IN other words- you can still see that much pin behind the rail and pin doesn't stick out as much on the front of the passenger side rail as it does on the drivers side.

Anyone ever notice this and does it seem like a problem?

I wish I could answer that for you. How much total in parts do you have invested?

About $1000 give or take? But I went Ford OEM phasers, VCT solenoids & Ford Racing oil pump/pick-up. Just those items alone were over $700. The rest was cloyes kit- plugs (SP-515), King bearing HP thrust set- oil, filters, gaskets etc.

What part number did you get? My Cloyes kit had the plastic tensioners in it when I did mine.

Yeah- you ordered 9-0391SB- which is the standard kit for the 04-08 f150 5.4. I ordered 9-0391SX- which has the same guides as the SB but has the cast iron ratcheting tensioners.
