running water noise

thank you very much for the info. I may be going back today to see the truck again and will check those areas. There was some snow in the cowl area but not that much that when it all melted, to make that kind of sound. The sound lasted for about 10 seconds, maybe less but it takes a lof of melted snow to equal a decent amount of water and there was snow but I dont think enough to make that much water after melted to sound like that but that was my first thought.
My wife and I commented on how new the carpet looked, like brand new. makes me wonder if it was replaced but the guy did take meticulous care of this truck so its possible its the original carpet, I guess.
it could be the A/C thing you mentioned as the sound did seem to come from passenger area. thanks for the tips..
PS. I did not hear the noise when it was turned off. the test drive was about 15 minutes and it did it towards the end of the test drive.

Another possibility would be that the blend door is not closed all the way, and the noise is the fan air; the upper and/or lower vents are not completely shut. Try operating the vents to see if the fan and airflow are working correctly.
If there's air in the cooling system, it should burp itself clear; check the overflow tank for anti-freeze; if its not up to the "cold level", maybe the coolant system has a leak, causing air to be drawn into the system while the engine is running; when the engine is turned off, the coolant would escape out of this leak rather then flow back into the expansion tank.

Was the defroster on during the test drive? If the defroster was on, then the A/C was operating, and the evaporator was creating some water in which would need to drain. However, I would not think it would sound like "running water".

I did not get to see the veh today as I looked at an 06 lariat that I really liked, only concern is this one did have the brake light leak as I can see the stained headliner. dealer will make sure its fixed (assuming it was never fixed but they will check it) but my concern is for how many years was water getting inside to places I can not see and if rust is forming below the carpet etc. they will check for me but short of removing all the carpet to check everywhere, no sure guarantee there is no rust where one can not see it.

The rear cab corners are a place for rust/rot to occur if water gets into the cab. If I were interested in the purchase, I'd ask the sales person to remove the carpet so I could inspect it; ask to be there when this work is being done by them, or get it in writing a warranty that covers any rust issues. I doubt they will go that far, so I'd want to inspect the areas that water has apparently got to.
