Truck stuck in 3WD? HELP
Just got my truck back from the shop. I went in the ditch and had to have a rear axle replaced....long story short...they said my front left wheel is locked in so I need some direction...vacuum line maybe? Want to fix this asap before anything else goes wrong.

It's more than likely related to a damaged vacuum line. I'd wonder why the shop didn't look a bit more into it and offer up a fix? Seems like something you wouldn't want to let go out the door if you were working on the drivetrain already....

Those things told me a whole lot of nothing when i troubleshooted mine other than actuator possibly causing the grinding. My problem was i had a actuator explode and grease went into the vaccum line and hardened. My 4x4 lights worked fine but it refused to pull up front.
Do this, get 2 jack stands, a good reliable jack. Jack the front off the ground. With engine off in 2wd spin the front tires, they should spin the cv axle but NOT the driveshaft.
Now crank the truck up in 2wd, spin the tires again, the vaccum should now be pulling pressure to unlock the actuator in place. So tires should free spin and CV axle should not move. The one that still spins the CV axle is a issue.
Hope this helps. Also check and see if the vaccum is pulling good on the engine itself. (red tube) if it is, then check out the vaccum box behind the battery as well. I hear they leak sometimes.

It's probably not your solenoid if one of the iwe's is engaged. This thread is more detailed:

Ofcourse once you figure out what's wrong, you have to figure out why it went wrong. Good luck!
