NAPA does not make anything, all parts are outsourced, so at a 90% guess I'd say its a Dorman. if its a says made in china than for sure its a dorman. I only buy dorman on weekends cause dealership is closed. can't say I have ever had problem with dorman fpdm just prefer to keep the money in the states.

All due respect, but do you really think they manufacture Motorcraft parts in the U.S.? No doubt the quality is better, but don't count on your money not going to Mexico or other countries.

Default fpdm

I just bought whatever brand Advanced Auto Parts had, (only one on hand) since it was a Sunday, I was not really caring about what brand. I needed it working for work. . Sometimes it is just whatever is available.

I had to replace the fpdm on my 06 xlt 4.6 a few years ago after it left my family and I stranded on the side of a interstate. I had it at the dealer a few days prior telling them to the fpdm and they told me to replace the fuel pump so I did and waisted my time. And let me tell you mine had a huge hole in the back of it the connector plug was partially melted and it reeked of burnt electrical, I stuck it inside a plastic baggie inside of a box the new one came in and I could still smell it. That bad. Any ways I now have a 07 fx4 5.4 does it have the same fpdm in the same spot? Thanks.

Hi.

Yes sir, it does.

Job 1 for you is to inspect ASAP. If it looks good, remove it, clean it and the surrounding area an remount with some stainless hardware with a couple extra nuts/washers to act as a spacer.

Oh yeah - give it a lght coat of Fluid Film too - both the FPDM and the mounting area. Will help keep the spooge at bay.

Lastly - go buy a spare , put it in a fresh non-smelly baggie and toss it into yer onboard parts cache.

My PO mentioned he had changed bcos it corroded. That was probably 1 or 2 yrs ago. When weather gets better am sure gonna take a look and make a shield of some sort. Sure someone here must have done it. What a place to keep this bugger in. Where do the newer trucks have their FSCM..?

Hi.

Newer as in 09+? AFAIK, it's in the same place as the '04-'08's.

A shield will only promote the accumulation of crud around the unit unless it is totally sealed. And totally sealing it is a bad idea as it needs to 'breathe - to shed heat.

Either use standoffs and keep an eye on it via seasonal inspections ( done at the same time as you drop the spare to wash and reinflate it every quarter - a good time as it's obscured by the spare itself) or relocate it inside the cab as described earlier.

And pack a spare.

I try not to over-engineer these types of things by modifying. I completely agree with the addition of stand-offs. The one I purchased came with rubber ones.

The way I see it... my stock part lasted almost 100k, so the new one (redesigned with stand offs) should get me through another 100,000+ miles.

MGD- Great advise about regular inspection while servicing the spare. You know your stuff.
