Default Reving engine

Does anybody know of a way to rev the engine from the engine bay? It would be useful to be able to do this at times. Also what should be hot idle speed be? Right now it idling at 590-600 rpms. Sorry but one more question, I haave a very slow return to idle after a cold start, is this normal, it idles about 1500-1800 rpm for about 30 sec then slowl drops, This only happens with a cold start. My truck is a 2005 lariet 5.4. Thanks.

Maybe try cleaning your MAF and throttle body. Is your air filter clean?

Mine idles about 1300 @ cold start and slowly drops over 20 to 30 seconds and the hot idle is the same as yours. I always thought that was normal operation for cold start.

Thanks for all the replys, sounds like my truck is acting normal. MAF clean, throttle body clean, air filter clean.

Google "open loop closed loop" if you want to learn the technical stuff behind why you engine idles high while its cold. The O2 sensors play a big part in this. Completely normal.

Have your wife/significant other sitting in the driver's seat waiting to rev it on your command.

There is no way I know of to manually rev the engine from the engine compartment since it is all electrical, no direct connection to the throttle pedal.
