Default reverse sensor replacement

Took the truck to the dealer to have them check the reverse sensors - they work intermittently. The price for the sensor (Ford OEM) is $150. But they want 1 1/2 hr labor which is another 150? They claim that the ECM has to be re-programmed??? Anyone else ever heard of that?

Nope...I had a sensor replaced under warranty and the work order said nothing about that.

Well I had the repair done - $280 - $153 sensor, $150 labor. (the dealer gave me 10% off) and I talked to the service manager. He said the labor is for diags & calibration. He was pretty thorough - said the sensors connect to a module. Each one may be a little different. The sensors measure distance AND speed (they have an accelerometer in them) and they work together in determining the "danger danger"! point. Sounded good.. or I'm just gullible %-). The bad sensor was had a pretty good sized chip in it - so no warranty on the part. But they did fix my Sirius antenna FOC!

Thanks for the comments!

I turned my truck on and put it in reverse then listened to each one and found that all were making clicking noises but one do I replaced that one. It didn't fix it and the same one is still not clicking so I figured u might be right about having to calibrate them? Maybe not though.

Default Sensors

Man, I had no idea those things cost that much. Ironically I just picked up one of these last week: http://www.superbumper.com/
Turns out my sensors are alittle more sensative than most so I'm working with the company owner figuring out the best method of moving it in a little.
Hopefully it will keep anyone from tapping mine, we'll see if it was a good investment or not. It does cost less in black than one sensor so seems like a decent investment.

Very interesting. When I got my truck, the bumper was damaged so I put on a new one and my sensors haven't worked since. This kinda makes sense on why.

I had two sensors not working and I went to the auto wrecker and replaced them ( one last spring the other in the fall. And my system works fine? Never had a dealer reprogram the system at all. I just bought a set from them $50 and just replaced each one until it started working.

Pretty sure you got ripped off and fed some BS. I've had two go out on me at different times in the past. Picked up OEM replacements each time and swapped them out myself in about 90 seconds flat and the system was good as new. Only paid $80 each for brand new sensors from the parts desk - no reprogramming or calibration required. Pretty basic system when you look at it.
