Reverse Light Bulbs?
Hi guys and gals,
I've finally decided that the tint on my back window combined with the stock halogen reverse lights is a recipe for disaster ( oh wait, it was ). That said, what's the BEST direct-replacement LED for the reverse lights? I know putting some LED spotlights under the bumper would be better, but I use every inch of ground clearance my lift gives me so that method is not practical.

Probably still not going to be much help...
The bumper mounted is probably gonna be your best bet... You can get some that are only about an inch tall? Is that really going to affect clearance?
Maybe mount them somewhere under the bed pointing down underneath the bumper.

I would pick an LED bulb up maybe even at walmart and try it. For $15 it will definitely make a difference. If they are still not good enough then look around. I have seen some people mount a light bar at the front of the bed to use a bed light/reverse light. Also seen people mount a light bar on top of the cab facing backwards for the same thing. Not a fan of either one. I have also seen people have mounted some to the bumper just below the taillight and outside of the range of the tailgate in the down position. Again not a fan. In my 02 I got some of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and drilled 6 holes in my bumper and mounted them in the bumper and tied them into the reverse lights. I loved them and the look wasn't too bad.

I dont know why they look yellowish in the pictures because they were very much white. Im guessing its the angle of the picture being eagle eye LEDs These pictures were taking in the pitch black in my garage. Very simple install only took about an hour. Drill holes in the bumper. Use painters tape to protect the surrounding bumper and seal it with something. I used a very small amount of clearcoat paint to help prevent rusting where i drilled the holes. Wire half the LEDs into a pair of wires and to the corresponding reverse light then do the same on the other half. I slpit them up to draw equal volatge through the lines. LEDs shouldn't overload the facotry wiring when split up. Especially if you change the bulbs inside the tailight housing also.

I had the same problem, and I also have tinted tail lights on top of that.
I went the under the bumper route, I used these very slim lights that work great, I don't think they would affect your ground clearance.

I use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 plus the LED's in my tailgate strip. They both help but with tinted tails and windows, I could use more light. I think that auxiliary lighting is your best bet.

I ordered the LED Philips bulbs and they just arrived. I will let you know how much of an improvement they are over the halogens.
If you don't want to lose ground clearance, you could flush mount these into your bumper https://www.amazon.ca/RioRand-Flush-.../dp/B00S0YHL5K
