Default Resetting Computer and Adaptive "memory"

How long should I leave the battery disconnected to reset the Computer and clear its adaptive memory?

Disconnect the battery and turn the headlights on and that will clear the memory.

None that I am aware of. I've heard some say 20 minutes, some an hour but discharging the computer memory by turning on the headlights should take care of it right away. It's always worked for me.

Just curious, why would one need to reset it?

I had a period of running with a bad COP and old plugs. I am trying to reset my fuel economy and shift points based on the new parts I installed (plugs, COPS, etc) Now that the truck is running good just with very low MPG,s that I am assuming it learned bases on running poorly with the missing COPs and old spark plugs

Ive done this many times on many diff vehicles. 10 minutes unplugged doing nothing else has never failed to do the trick.
