I did something similar except I used one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/us-seller-FLUSH-MOUNT-AUX-USB-DOCK-SMART-PHONE-MP3-THUMB-DRIVE-FLASH-STICK-PORT-/281195896310?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417894ddf6&vxp=mtr
The USB receptacle is mostly flush with the tray, so you can either use a USB phone charger (an unplug when not needed) or plug in a USB thumb drive with music loaded on it. This eliminates needing to have the USB wire on the back of the aftermarket radio running to the glove box or elsewhere. You could also install the above receptable on the console or below the HVAC controls.

I did the same with the wire coming out of the existing spot. It's not in this picture, but i put an o-ring in the hole also, so I don't have to worry about it falling back down into the dash.

Back to the OP's question. I had to get an adapter, because the Ford jack is a 90° angle, and wouldn't go far enough into the head unit. I have also just bent the end straight before, but that's up to you.

My 07 needed the antenna adapter, bought it as part of a kit that had, double din mounting kit, wiring harness and antenna adapter for $14 on ebay.
