The new flare side beds are the exact same as the 04-08 flare sides, flat on the tailgate. They don't have that panel on the tailgate with the grooves in them. If you look at a style side bed you can see how the badge has kind of a step to it to fit into the grooves. So they won't lay perfectly flat.

Yeah I was looking at my tailgate one and I think I might have gotten the one that won't lay flat. Any suggestions on what I could do to fix that?

Well your also going to have to fix the alignment pins bc they are more than likely going to be square instead of circles also. There's not really a fix to the grooves but the alignment pins you can just sand until they will fit.
