Three "clunks" is the rule of thumb for seating a TC. This rule applies to vehicles at least as far back as the 70's. I'm somewhat OCD and normally spin it a good 100 turns to make sure it's fully seated, the added 5 minutes is well worth it

That is possible, but I dont recommend it.

you will need some special tools to do it correctly, as well as new seals and gaskets. by the time you go through all that, you are better off having the old trans rebuilt.

how does the pump look? any obvious damage?

I highly recommend you replace the 4 metal sealing rings on the pump stator.

If it's the same converter in a 6R80, I have my stock converter for sale.

I highly recommend NOT using the TC from the slipping transmission. The TC is a collection magnet for debris from worn parts. Like mentioned before, you would be better off starting from scratch and getting the trans torn down by a pro versus taking your chances and likely kicking yourself in the **** "again". Chalk it up as a lesson learned, happens to all of us at some point

Take the old tranny to a reputable shop, buy your own master rebuild kit, and have then bench build it. If you need a Valve body, I have one for sale in the sale forum with upgraded parts and new solenoids and sonnax kit. I had mine bench built for 300 bucks labor and supplied all the parts. Stay away from Kevlar. You can get all this done for under 800 bucks if you shop for kits. If you plan on using as a DD a TC from advanced or AutoZone should be fine.
