https://www.f150forum.com/members/04hdlariat the truck idle just fine, it isn't until you get on the gas when you notice a problem, it over revs, under powered and doesn't want to shift right

Do you still have the old chains and components installed? if so, you should be able to turn your harmonic balancer until the tick mark is at the 1:00 position. At that point verify the cam lobe positions, (pics in my album) if they are not pointing the right direction, rotate the harmonic balancer 1 full turn and line the tick mark up again. The cam lobes should be at the correct position now. The motor should now be in time, use a pair of vice grips behind the phaser on a non journaled part of the cam and hold the cam from turning while you loosen the phaser bolt. When you replace the chains, make sure that the colored dot on the chains are lined up correctly on the crank sprocket and the colored links are lined up on the phasers properly with the Arrow in between the colored links. Attempt to slide the phaser on the cam, if necessary, a little turn with the vice grips on the cam will help the phaser line up right. Install the phaser bolt, install the guides, tensioners and don't forget to remove the tensioner retaining pin and also the reluctor ring in front of the crankshaft gear (I believe the reluctor ring teeth face out)

If it's P0345 it could just be the cam position sensor. That code just came up for me on my 2005 XLt 5.4, and the most common fix is simply replacing the cam sensors. you may have done all that work for nothing! (I'm just really hoping that mine will be that easy but nothing has been easy on my truck).

Normally the engine will rumble badly (almost like a diesel) when at idle or slow speeds.
I'm dealing with this now on my truck. My buddy who's a Ford Mechanic told me that my issue is probably the vct solenoids. the P0345 code came up, and that's a generic code which could mean almost anything. the easiest thing to do is take it and have Ford do a pinpoint test to see what's exactly wrong. But I'm just going to use process of elimination. I'm going to change both my solenoids, if that doesn't work change the camshaft sensors. If that doesn't fix my problem (and most likely your and OP problems too) then it means that everything needs to be retimed and replaced...Which is a beotch of a project.
