it's wayyyy easier to remove the two bolts holding the cat to the exhaust manifold flange and take the head out with manifold attached.

Then you're free to do surgery on the manifold and studs outside the truck.

Matter of fact yes-but for other reasons. Thinking back it probably helped...

Actually, no-it didn't help dropping the starter. Can't see how it would. Basically went through passenger side wheel well.

You do not need to remove the motor to pull the head i just did it myself on both heads. Don't try and pull the manifold off it's going to be heavy, but not worth the aggravation. dyeguy1212 is right! Detach the manifold where it connects to the cat flange only!!! The biggest problem is going to be, fighting it past your a/c accumulator and hose. But before doing any of that do a compression and leak down test to be sure. The cost of the gaskets and head bolts and all the things that go along with it add up quick.

Did you take the 4 oil pan bolts off in the front? Gotta get underneath with a 10mm wrench if I remember right. Good luck.

You need a second person to help you line up the studs on the manifold when you reinstall. But removal is easy.
