Removing cats
#1
Following a previous thread on how to deal with getting around rear O2 sensors. I finally got around to removing my cats. Process was actually a lot more involved than I expected. I went to the auto wrecker and bought a mid pipe out of an 08 as there was only two cats on it and had them cut out and keep the cats (was cheaper that way, with front o2's They sold me it for $40) j then took some 2.5" EMT ( electricians conduit) cause as an electrical contractor I have quite a bit laying around. I then removed my mid pipe, what a pain in the *****, I tried avoiding removal of the transmission cross member but in the end I had to come out, I then mocked everything up and welded in the EMT in replacement of the cats. And then welded in two new O2 sensor bungs approximately in the OEM locations. I decided to try the Gotts O2 mod so i bought two spark plug foulers from NAPA and drilled the inside cavity out to fit the O2 sensors . And then fit them into the new bungs. I installed the new offload mid pipe and installed the old sensors and fired it up. *no CEL*. Went for a Lil drive around the block and everything seemed to work pretty good. The truck had a decent tone to it through the stock muffler. Nice quiet rumble but not to loud at all as I prefer quite exhaust. Driving it I found the truck really seemed to be woken up having the cats gone. I'm gonna drive it as us for a few tanks and and see if there are any differences and record if there is a change in mileage. I'll keep everyone who's interested posted.

Wait for it... truck needs two heat up and cool down cycles to pass the catalyst test. Drive it a few times on the highway and see if the light stays off.

I hope you gave yourself plenty of ventilation.....welding galvanized pipe isn't the safest alternative in the world. It's also probably not going to have much of a lifetime, as EMT is soft tubing.
No comment on the legalities of removing the cats......

Sorry havnt got the pic up yet.
Update, took the truck on a 1000 km road trip last few days,no CEL. Gas mileage increase from 23 liters per 100km to 17 liters per 100k plus throttle response is much better,
