Do i just need to pull on the vents in the dash? I want to paint the chrome rings but they don't seemt o come out very easily and i really don't want to break any of them. thanks for the help

Yep just grab the vent and pull. It may help to twist while pulling.

There are two plastic tabs on the vents holding them in. Easiest way to get them out is to take a metal coat hanger and cut it so you have two hooks for ends. Use that to hook the tabs and give er a pull, they'll pop right out.
