recommendation for winch ?
Dumb questions of a newbie...
I want to add a winch to my 2006 XLT/XTR, just in case I get stuck out in the bush, which can be several hundred miles in the off.
What brand / type / capacity of winch do you recommend ?
Steel rope or "textile"
Last not least what is a recommended hitch mount? I have read about a mount which could be put into the hitch receiver. First I though thats smart, but then I was wondering if this really is sturdy enough if I would need to pull from an tough angle, i.e. not pulling straight. Also I would need to stow the stuff somewhere...And have very strong electrical connectors/plug
Beside the fact I don't know anyone who ever had to use the winch, I still want one ....just in case
Let me hear your view
Thanks

I suspect you didn't get an answer because of several factors. First, you posted in a model specific section of the forum. Second, because the answer is easily(?) found on the forum.

There is an off-road section that may get you more responses. Conventional wisdom is winch should be rated to pull 1.5X your truck's weight. For an F150 that means 9,500-10,500lb. You can buy stealth winch mounts that go behind the front bumper. The receiver hitch mount appeals to me so I can easily pull in either direction. Angled pulls can be arranged using pulleys so you pull straight from the winch. Wiring can be run to both ends of the truck for power. You can store the winch when not using it keeping the winch out of the weather and the weight out of your truck.
Look for a wireless remote. Really handy. I'll go with synthetic rope for two reasons. Weight and much less damage potential if it snaps.
