thanks for the tip. double checked it, its the correct wire. it's something with the radio. I unplugged the wire connecting to the reverse wire just to get the radio off camera mode. Currently looking at the wiring diagram to see if there is something else I need to do. The radio just sits in camera mode and when I put the car in reverse, it will show the back up camera. Out of reverse its back the black screen saying no video connected. I can't switch to any other source either. So frustrating!

Here's the radio wiring. I connected the RCA to the yellow plug and the reversal line.

When I did mine, I ran the wire from my reverse lights back up to the cab with the video cable to use as my trigger wire.

Go to the menu in the radio. There should be an option to have it come on when you put the truck in reverse. Sounds like you got it all hooked up right now.

I just did the same type of install. Fortunately, I ordered it from Crutchfield so I had plenty of support. My radio connector had a wire that was to be connected to a reverse sensor wire. The Crutchfield Tech told me it was a green/yellow wire located in the cab at multiple sites. I found several in the wire loom in the passenger kick panel. Before connecting, I tested the voltage on the green/yellow wire. It read 0 volts until I put the transmission in reverse and it showed 12V so I knew I had the correct wire. Once I connected to it, the camera worked correctly. Before I used the reverse sensor wire, the camera worked only when I manually switched the radio to "video". By using the reverse sensor wire, it started working as intended.

Thanks, I'll give this a try seeing that the other wire is not working as intended and the radio has no menu settings for a back up camera. I've seen this wire mentioned a few times through my searching today. God damn, this is annoying!

You need to connect your Violet/White wire coming out of the radio to the Black/pink stripe reverse light wire. If the black/pink is 12v constant, your reverse lights will be on when you are driving forward.

alright shelving the install until tomorrow but wanted to post 2 pictures in hopes of solving this tomorrow.

This first one is where I have it running now. The black/pink wire under the dash. As mentioned before, this is the same wire that appears in the tail light and has been confirmed to work for others. It displays my camera but my HU is stuck in camera mode while connected to this wire.

this second picture is HOPEFULLY the correct green/yellow wire in the passenger kick panel that I am going to try and re-route to this weekend to end this saga.

I did this. It works per se. When the truck is put into reverse, the camera shows but when the truck is not in reverse, the radio stays in camera mode but just a black screen. I can't access any other part of the radio. Someone mentioned a setting in the menu about the camera. I unplugged my connection to get back to the radio mode and checked the settings. Had no luck. I'm going to try to route to the aforementioned green/yellow wire in the passenger kick panel this weekend.

If you have the truck in park and turn the key ON, what does the screen display? Radio or video?

If it displays video, you've got the wrong truck wire tapped.

If displays radio, and then you put the truck into reverse, it displays video, you have the correct truck wire tapped.

If it displays video when put into reverse, and never returns to radio screen when truck is put in any other gear, it's got to be the head unit acting up.

Have you tried driving forward after it gets stuck on video screen? Some radios will display the video until you reach XXmph.

With truck in park and key to on, the screen is on video. When truck is started, screen is in video mode with camera in top left corner and screen saying no video detected. When truck switches to reverse, video shows back up camera. Switch to park/drive, video switches to black screen saying no video detected. Camera is shown in top left corner.

I'm going to try to drive forward suggestion, if that fails, I'll try to route to green/yellow wire. If both those fails, I'm returning the HU and getting a different one. I have until January 31 to do so.

Sure sounds like I've done everything correct and the HU is the problem. Appreciate all the help fellas. Couldn't have done it without you.
