Default Rear end shudder - not while turning

Hey all, this is starting to bug me, so I'd like to get some input on it.

Bought an 04 New Body Supercab w/ 97,700-ish miles on it, about two months ago. Since about 98,000 miles, it's had a "sometimes" shudder when taking off straight from a light or dead stop under light throttle.

It doesn't do it while turning, it doesn't do it if I give her hell when taking off, and it doesn't even always do it.

If I'm paying attention, I can actually count the "skips/shudders" it makes - between 5 and 7 most times, and it does it for between 1-2 seconds on take off.

I'm fairly certain it's not misfire; I've got no CEL, the 4.6's idle is smooth as glass, and there's no vibration when I give it very light throttle in park or neutral.

It doesn't impact the driveability of the truck, but it does irritate me when it happens. Any ideas? I'm already planning to change the rear differential fluid and additive when she turns 100k, along with plugs, oil, filters and trans fluid check, as I don't know much about the service records.

Thanks for any input.

Bad u-joint, friction modifier needed, or a sticky spider gear in your diff. Start with the fluid change with plenty of modifier.

I never did anything to try and fix it, haven't had the time or money really. I think I've just gotten used to it - I haven't noticed it in a while.

Mine used to do that... I changed the rear diff oil and added friction mod.. That fixed the problem.

my stepdads 2004 screw does this shudder sound while turning corners from a standing start.
does that mean it probly has limited slip and needs friction modifier too?
