A little back story. Had a 'rumble' that was hard to locate. At first I suspected the driveshaft carrier bearing, (yes, a two piece driveshaft). Then I suspected the pinion bearing. Pulled the dif cover and had shiny flacks in the oil, thought it looked like 'bearing chrome'. Buttoned it up and ordered a rebuild kit. Later when the time was available, I started to disassemble the rear end. When I pulled the diff, the bad bearing was obvious. The pinion felt great so I left it alone. New diff case bearings and all is well!

Not hard at all. The tough part is removing and replacing the bearing, might want to take the assembly to a machine shop. I used a torch to heat the bearing races to get them free, then used the old bearing race and a press to seat the new bearing races.

Hello All,
I'm having a hard time trying to find out the source of a rotational sound. It's hard to explain but it sounds like it could be a bearing or bad tire but I've replaced the bearings, rotors, brakes, and rotated tires. It's loudest and most notable slowing down at low speeds. I eliminated my tires by jacking up the rear end and putting it in drive. I recorded the sound with my phone but don't know if it's ok to add it in this post. I don't think it's coming from the trans as I moved down to that area and didn't hear it. It's like it's either from the rear end or wheel. Like I mentioned earlier, these are new bearings and seals with friction modifier added.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Ken
