Yes. You have about a 50/50 chance that a fluid & additive change will fix the issue. Noisy clutches are a very common problem with the 9.75" axle. Its a few hundred dollar job to have them changed if the fluid doesn't do it.

Ok so if I do have to change them, should I go to different gears/ratio I don't pull a tone just a couple mid size trailers, or should I look into doing something different with rear if I have to. Thx

The first thing I would be inclined to upgrade is the posi-trac unit itself. I S-canned the factory Trac-lock and installed a True-track. It engages very positively when called upon, has perfect street manners under normal driving circumstances and had no clutches to wear out.

I would assume you're going to have it professionally installed by a shop that does that kind of thing. In that case I would buy it through the installer. Yes you'll probably pay a little more than if you bought it online, but you'll have a better relationship with the shop (they generally don't like carried-in parts) and an in-house warranty in the event something went wrong with the unit.

Change the fluid and additive first. You've got a fair chance that will fix it with no further mechanical intervention. If not, then you can persue your options.
