Rear Differential Leak

I do need to clean the outside a bit, so it would be easier to see. But I'm happy to report that the wet spots have not gotten any bigger, its not wet to the touch, and none is dripping on the ground.
But that's correct - the red is for high temp. I've heard the best things about the black but a lot of people use red too. I do need to check the pressure relief hose as well.
The gasket and RTV in the picture is the one I used for the front diff and that one has no leakage. Also, I did let that one cure a little bit longer before attaching it, but then I filled it and drove it about 1.5 hours after - so go figure! I really think that the problem could have been it was overfilled an pressure just forced some out but I'm not sure.

Overfill can be done-- the off roaders do it
Offroaders jack up one side in order to get more fluid in . They also run an extension into the cab on the breather tube to keep water out of the diff . I am not going to do that but you learn something new everyday . It just goes to show you level ground when filling as well as your jacks can vary things .

A slight incline won't cause any issues. Think about it, there are breathers on the axle, the diff fluid doesn't serve a hydraulic purpose like transmission oil does (oil isn't being 'pumped'), therefore, there is no "pressure" to force fluid out. Hopefully the gasket finally seated well and you are free of leaks!

It may not technically be called "pressure" which I agree to however what is the breather hose for and what happens when it gets clogged. heat build up I guess. What I should have said was with everything sloshing around and building up heat it will find a weak spot and leak
