Default Rear Differential

How many people are having to rebuild their rear differential? I have an 05 SCREW with 67000mi. with a roaring noise. After talking to a couple of transmission shops, it will cost at least $500 to rebuild. Just wondering if there are any else out there with the same problem?

I rebuilt mine for a little over $300, but I did all of the work myself. It made a hell of a difference.

It's not all that uncommon to have clutch pack issues with limited slips that soon. But it sounds like you have either a problem with bearings, or a setup problem that took a while to show up.

Rear-ends typically outlast the rest of the truck, so NO, you should not be having the problem you're having quite yet. $500 isn't really a bad price to get it fixed though. It's kinda a P.I.T.A., and has to be done right.

The same thing happened to mine. If you like off-roading Just replace it with an ARB and get it over with.

This is interesting. I have about 70k on my '05 Lariat and when I took to the Ford dealership for regular mainteance I was told I needed a rear differential rebuild. I was quoted about $800. This is my first and only Ford truck and I'm at my wits end. Since I've had it have had to replace all four brakes, throttle body, driver side front window motor, now the rearend and my right turn signal just stopped working. I'd get rid of it but the value has plummeted and I'm way upside down on my loan.

Same here. Lost all faith in ford Trucks. Have and '05 F150 FX4 super. 3 New ball joints, 2 new Cam Fasers, needs rear end rebuilt, Trans updates need to be done, Slip bump update needs to be done, and I had the Front Left IWE replaced last year costing me $530 for the IWE and a wheel bearing. Then they were nice enough to guarantee me I'd be back again for the other side!!!! Also a promised I'd be back for more phasers too!!!! Great, looking forward to it!!!!!
