Default rear axle pinion seat replacement?

I see there's 3 special tools required, assuming I have everything, whats the estimated time for this job?

interesting, the brake rotors have to come off to reduce drag when measuring the pinion nut torque on removal. Does this nut have to be replaced?

is there any reason to measure differential ring gear backlash before and after? can this be affected by torquing down the pinion flange?

thanks,
john

sorry typo in the topic- referring to the rear axle pinion seaL not seat. my rear diff is a B6 (from the door) which i believe means a 3.73 limited slip and a 9.75" gear.

you know what, I called ford for a quote for parts and for parts & labour and you know what he tells me is that the pinion nut is re-useable. It is not marked "once-use" on his computer, and he does not stock any and he said they do those seals on trucks so often that if it was a use-once part he would surely have stock. I'm quoted $268 including fluids.

to do the pinion seal is pretty simple. remove driveshaft and pinion nut, and companion flange with a 3 jaw puller

remove seal

you should pull the pinion bearing out and replace the crush sleeve then reinstall everything and torque to crush the sleeve. which can be done with a 250lb torch wrench or a impact.

add some loctite on the pinion nut and your done.
