Re gear or upgrade truck?

Re gear or upgrade truck?
I know i know.....a lifted truck on 35s isnt the ideal towing vehicle to use. The thing is , I only tow my travel trailer 2-3 times per year and each time is about a 2 hour haul to its location. The truck feels like its maxed out on hills and on ramps. Braking and straight highways are no problem. I currently have the factory 3.73 ratio and am weighing the thoughts of upgrading to 4.56 or trying to upgrade to a newer 5.0/ecoboost at some point.
My truck is mostly a grocery getter/ weekend rig that sits in the garage all week. so 80% in town driving and 20% highway in the summer for lake trips. Im not so worried about mpg because i already am around 10mpg seems like and thats not why i bought i truck.
I really don't want to get rid of the truck since its paid off and i couldn't get a newer one with all that mine has into it for less than $27k unless i want one that has 80k miles on it.
Truck specs that could help discussion:
2008 fx4 crew cab
5.4 flex fuel
3.73 gear
22x11 rims
35" tires
6" pro comp stage 1 lift kit
Anyone have thoughts on what they would do?

Re gear for sure. Would be cheaper and would give you the extra pulling power. No sense in buying a new truck with a few more horses and 3.73, I think you would still be in the same situation after. If you love the truck and would hate to get rid of it re-gear. And if you're not worried about gas mileage but still kinda worried about pulling the trailer look into 4.88s. No matter if you go 4.56 or 4.88 you're RPMs will be high.

Thanks. From the little that I have re searched it looks like I'd be around 2100 rpm at 70mph. I need to check around on prices. I'm nervous about trusting a shop to work on it lol

I was in pretty much the exact scenario. With a regear to 4.56 and a towing tune, I don't have any concerns on the hills anymore. I've done the same drive before and after the regear and the difference was pretty clear. Now my only anxiety is the heat of the tranny on those climbs.

4.56's will change everything for you buddy. Towing 8K lbs with my 3.73 and 35's sucked big time. tranny temps were into the 210 range on hills. OD off was mandatory.

Those are 35's on mine. My tune is from MPT and I run their Towing/Street tune. I had no real change in MPG. Sucked before and sucks now. On a road trip with the trailer loaded, its sucking about 7mpg. Compared to spending $40k on something newer and more capable, its a trade off I'll take.
